[01] The Maker Behind the Metal
JUSTIN MAX
Justin’s sculptures explore the interface between form and force—capturing movement, tension, and transformation in solid metal.
Justin’s work is heavily influenced by raw industrialism, basic geometry, and the beauty of non-organic forms. Through a process that blends technical excellence with artistic intent, he transforms metals like brass, copper, bronze, mild steel, and stainless steel into bold, durable works of art.
Shaped by a rural upbringing in northern Wisconsin and forged through hands-on mastery of industrial fabrication, Justin has lived across the nation honing his craft alongside fellow artists who share his passion.
Though his work continues to reach audiences nationwide, his heart always led him back to the Twin Cities, where his aesthetic continues to evolve, informed by every step of his journey.
[02] Where It All Started
Early Works
His earliest pieces were formed by assembling found objects—rusted tools, machine parts, industrial scraps—into imaginative forms that echoed the natural world.
That early instinct to fuse industry with nature evolved alongside his study of metallurgy and careers in stock car and aerospace welding. The precision of those fields, and the challenge of transforming flat, stubborn steel into aerodynamic function, continue to inform his creative philosophy today.
“I can see the energy that flows through each piece. My sculptures are a tangible form of that invisible geometry, a polished revival of moments in time.”
